Q: A roofer tarped my roof & covered my neighbors garage. My neighbor is demanding I pay to remove it. Am I responsible?
I had my roof tarped. The roofers tarped my neighbor's side of the garage & were gone before we realized what was done. I live in a townhome. My neighbor & I assumed my roof claim w Citizens would be resolved quickly, however, I am now involved in a lawsuit. I've contacted the roofer (email & left messages), asking for resolution but they refuse to respond. I provided my neighbor's name & phone # to the roofing co & visa versa. My neighbor has not reached out & sd she didn't want to be involved in that matter. I told her there is little I can do as I am not the owner. She had a roofer come out & provide an estimate to have the tarp removed. She sd it would be $800 & asked when I could pay. My neighbor is selling her home & I understand her frustration but I don't feel I am the party responsible. I'm afraid if I pay, I will assume further liability - the roofer nailed in the tarp. Yes, this is a licensed roofer. I was told it would be sandbags, but that's besides the point. Any advice?
A: It is unclear what you mean about your "roof claim w Citizens", and by "I am now involved in a lawsuit". Has your neighbor sued you or not? It doesn't appear you would be liable, although the contractor probably would be.
