Q: If two people own half of a whole house can the one person force the other to sell, or make them leave?
The home was inherited to my boyfriend and his aunt from his grandmother who owned the house but left it to my boyfriend and his aunt. She is threatened to make him leave, but yet he's taken care of the house and lived in it for the past 2 years. The aunt has her own home in north Carolina.
A: They can ask for partition which is a fancy way of saying sell the house and split the proceeds. They can't make him leave but they have an equal right of possession.
