A: By default, adoption records are not public. There is no official adoption certificate, once the adoption is final, the adoptive parents file for a new birth certificate. If you are the adoptive parents then you will have a copy of the filed paperwork or your attorney should be able to provide that to you. If you are the adopted child/person, then there are some avenues that you can take to find certain information, such as medical information, but sometimes you cannot find any other information. In some cases, you cannot find any information. If you were the birth parent (or relative of) then most likely you will not find any information.
