Q: can a property managment company change the way rent it paid mid lease if it cost me more money?

now have to pay through there app which has a $50 fee. will no longer take checks/moneyorders at the office like they have since i moved in

A: It depends on exactly how the lease says a tenant must pay rent. If it says landlord can designate the method and place of payment, then landlord could require that. Talk to landlord about the extra $50 charge. But if you don't pay rent they way landlord demands, then landlord could file to evict you. You could then explain to the judge what landlord is doing. Maybe you win, or maybe not, depending on exactly what the lease says. Talk to other tenants and join together to use the Find a Lawyer tab to retain a local attorney to review the lease and advise you of the required method of payment or if you have options.
