Greensburg, PA asked in Traffic Tickets for Pennsylvania

Q: Received a fine for a Hit & Run. After court they turned it into a traffic control violation. What do I do?

I struck a vehicle making a sharp left turn. I exchanged information with the driver and I continued as normal. Months later I receive a citation in the mail for a hit & run. I have proof that it wasn't a hit and run. Pictures, the drivers info etc. I went to court over this and the Judge wouldn't dismiss it because "He had to give me something". The judge turned the citation into a traffic control violation which in my line of work is very harmful. What do I do?

A: He felt he was doing you a favor as hit and run is at least a misdemeanor, and can be a felony. It's very serious.

You have to look at the section. If it's a stop sign violation those are no points for the first offense. If it was a control signal, that is points but it's not a misdemeanor. If you want you should hire an attorney and appeal it. Maybe the attorney can get it converted to an equipment failure and a few other things to amp it to the level the judge thought was appropriate. Or, you can ask the cop if he'd agree to that renaming---he can give you separate equipment violations to equal the same amount of money, for instance.
