This is not my area of practice, but you could try reposting under Probate and Estate Planning if the credit union can't offer guidance in terms of beneficiaries/alternate beneficiaries. Attorneys in those categories would have the most insight into anything involving the estate, wills, and related matters. If you still don't get a response, and your family did not have an attorney involved in drawing up a will or other arrangements, you could look up attorneys in those areas or practice in the Buffalo area under Find-a-Lawyer, or search on your own.
