Q: Can you tell me why the assessor office will not grant me title on property in which I am entitled. Under proposition

OMy aunt help me do all the paperwork and she said because it proposition 13 I don’t need to go through probate because there isn’t anything else. I filled out all the paperwork that was required I had them notarized I sent the death and birth certificates along with it everything the parent child exclusion and then when I called them they said they don’t have to give it to me but that’s not what the law says under proposition 13. She died right before proposition 13 was repealed.

A: Prop 13 and probate have nothing to do with each other. You need to go through the probate court to transfer title. The assessor does not transfer title.
