Q: What steps can I take without legal representation, my daughters mother wants to relocate out of the state of Ohio.
I had paternity test done, I am the father. We have not been to court at all to set child support or custody etc. our daughter is 4 years old. Cincinnati Ohio area
A: If you are an unmarried father in the State of Ohio who has not been to court yet to establish custody or visitation rights, then right now you have 0 rights and the mother can move wherever she wants with the child. You need to speak with a lawyer about your options.
A: Contact your local juvenile court and ask for the form you need to file for parental rights, or check the court's web site. But the court people can't offer much help -- they can't offer legal advice. So if you don't do it correctly, you are not likely to succeed. So to improve your chance of success, use the Find a Lawyer tab to retain a local family law attorney to assist you. Call around to find one who can work within your budget.
