Cadiz, KY asked in Criminal Law for Kentucky

Q: What is the best course of action regarding an outstanding warrant for a $131 check from 2006 that I didn't know about?

I received notification from a background check company (regarding a job I just started) that I have an outstanding warrant that has never been served for a $131 worthless check from 2006. I had no knowledge this existed and was in the military at the time. I have held Top Secret clearance and served in both the USMC as well as in the US Army as a Blackhawk pilot and never had an issue with my clearance. So, you can imagine my surprise to find out that I have a misdemeanor charge out there as well as the outstanding warrant. I have no idea what the $131 check would be or why I would have not received any type of notification. I'm not sure if my best course of action is to just contact the Onslow County courthouse to see what I can find out or if there is a different way I need to go about clearing this up. I have disputed it through the background check company because I truly have no clue what this could be, but since it is showing I also want to do what I can to clear it up.
