Phoenix, AZ asked in Medical Malpractice for California

Q: How much is it to retain a lawyer to sue a doctor for malpractice? Or is there a pro bono lawyer available?

In 2020 my daughter went to her old pediatrician for an STD screening and was never informed she was positive for an STD even after having several follow up appointments. So she was never treated. In February 2022, she took another STD screening with her new Internal med doctor who told her she was positive for an STD and provided her a treatment. The fact that the STD has gone untreated for almost 2yrs has caused my daughter to be infertile which explains why her and her fiance have not had any luck on getting pregnant last year. She is only 23yrs old and was wanting to start her family already but now cannot. Is this a case someone would take? If so, how much and is Pro Bono services available? she is located in the Bay Area.

A: A failure to diagnose and treat an SDT which delay can then be causally related to infertility sounds like an actionable claim to me. Most medical malpractice attorneys work on contingency which means they basically work for free until/unless there is a settlement or a jury verdict in the plaintiff's favor. The contingency is a percentage of the plaintiff/patient's recovery. You are welcome to give her my contact information as I too work on contingency on my medical malpractice cases. My contact information is in my bio on this site.
