Q: Why are me an my wife being charged with assualt for defending our selves

My wife's sister tried rushing me so I defended myself till she stopped coming at me as soon as my wife walked inside she was assaulted by her sister also now both my wife and I have assault charges for defending our selves when her sister was the aggressor wife's mother says she's going to go to court and tell them the sister came at us will this help us on the day of theses events wife's mom tried to choke me an I pushed her off me an she went and got an exparta saying I tried choking her sister doesn't reside in the house we did an didn't at the time prior to this I flipped a table I own an it landed in the middle of the floor an I left wife's sister called the cops after I left an I got charged with assualt for that also because she said it hit her when it never came close to her right after wife moved out the sister stole pills from her mother an I think that's why the sister is trying so hard to get the wife an I away from her parents she was reported for stealing the pills
