Mandeville, LA asked in Estate Planning for Pennsylvania

Q: Pennsylvania Estate Law My dad died 2/2/2022. My sister’s the executrix and we are estranged. Want advice.

I live in Louisiana and want to know that she’s not stealing from the Estate. She just contacted me after no contact for 2 months and wants me to help clean out the family house. Am I obligated to comply? Can I charge the Estate a fee to fly up there, car rental, hotel fee since she wants help? I think she influenced my father into changing his will leaving the 2 of us 50/50 to her 50% and me 20%, my 3 kids 5% and my dad’s high school 25%. Is there a way for me to see an accounting of what she is spending and if she’s collecting an executor fee for handling the Estate? She claims she’s not. I’ve been told she’s allowed 10%. I don’t trust her! My dad had an extensive old coin collection and when I asked her what happened to it, she was avoided the question. I need advice on how to handle all of this. I would like someone to look at the will and tell me what the “fine print” says. Thank you.

A: … hello …

… I have never heard of an executor commission being 10 percent - in Pennsylvania, it has to be “reasonable” …

… you don’t have to help her clean out the house, and being reimbursed would be up to her …

… although your father just passed a month and a half ago, you can hire an attorney to assist you …

… I would consult with an experienced probate attorney and share your concerns …
