A: Felon in possession of a firearm is a 3rd degree felony (this could be enhanced to a higher level offense if he has TDC felony convictions). The punishment range for a 3rd degree felony is 2 to 10 yrs in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. He could get probation by agreement with the prosecution, or by the Judge after a punishment hearing. If he goes to trial, he will NOT be eligible for probation with a felony conviction.
