Duluth, GA asked in Car Accidents for Georgia

Q: Am I supposed to get car accident settlement money??

I was in a car accident in a car owned by someone else but insured and maintained by myself. When the at fault drivers insurance issued a settlement, it was given to the owner of the car, who pocketed all the money. Was I supposed to get anything?

A: A Georgia attorney could advise best, but your question remains open for three weeks. It would help to see the wording of your policy. But in general terms, the way it works nationwide is that the policyholder (who is usually the vehicle owner) gets the check for property damage and they use the money for repairs. Your arrangement here differs from that. Were you injured? I hope not, but if there were injuries, you could possibly have the basis for a claim from the other driver (as you mention that they were the at-fault driver). You could reach out to attorneys to look at the matter in a more detailed manner. Keep in mind that most law firms would charge to evaluate such a matter if injuries were not involved, and it was purely property damage. Good luck
