Q: How long until a found dog can be adopted by the new owner? I found a dog 9 days ago & no one has claimed him.
I reported the dog as found with the shelter & posted all over social media. Took to vet & he doesn’t have tags or microchip. I want to go ahead & get him neutered & all of his shots. How long does the previous owner have to come forward? My daughter has fallen in love with the dog & we would keep him, I just don’t want something to happen 2 months down the road & someone can take him from our family
A: If no one has claimed him within five (5) days and theres no other info is of ownership, you can consider him your dog. The sooner you get him chipped and vetted, the sooner you’ll be able to say he is your dog.
