A: A North Carolina attorney could advise best, but your question remains open for two weeks. Nationwide, auto policies often have provisions for uninsured motorist and underinsured motorist protection. Such coverages are governed by state law, in terms of their statutory requirements. Therefore, only a local attorney could advise on how this might operate in North Carolina. If such coverage avails itself, it's likely your attorney has explored it, since it is usually a primary option nationwide in such settings. Good luck
