Q: I'm filing a chapter 7 bankruptcy in November of 2022. How long after it's discharged can I try to purchase a house??

A: There is no particular law/statute that prohibits your request for extensions of credit after entry of a discharge order in your bankruptcy case.

However, as a practical matter, because the filing of your bankruptcy will be picked up/shown by the credit bureaus as a "public record", and remain on your credit report for as long as ten years, lenders will probably decline your application for a mortgage loan for quite some time. Even then, because of the bankruptcy discharge, your credit rating will be adversely impacted and if you do find a willing lender, your interest rate will be higher.
