Q: Can a written verbal notice of a suspended license result in official charges? At Arraignment, I was charged

Pulled over cited, and impounded for expired registration; given a written verbal notice of suspended license, and additional charges for drugs found upon inventory. At court date, I was charged with driving with a suspended and the drug charges. However, I wasn’t given a “citation” for the suspended license- dmv record shows reinstatement in feb 2022, then suspended again in May 2022, the reason unknown, dmv couldn’t answer it for me. However I have prior DUI’s dating back 3-4 years. Registration one year expired in June 2022, this incident occurred Aug. 2022. Additionally, the police were not driving directly behind me, they were one car back and followed me as I turned onto a side street. I’m confused by the charges for the license, because I wasn’t “cited” and how the inventory took place. Drugs and paraphernalia found in glove box, inside of an eye glasses case, inside of an eye drop box- belonged to a friend- I agreed to take for him since he is in the midst of child custody.

A: Incident to an arrest the police will inventory items.

the police stop a person and then submit a report to the DA who then decides what to file.

if you have 2 DUI's they will suspend your license if within short period of time.

more suspension for 3rd.

if you are being prosecuted criminally, then you retain a lawyer, or a public defender will be appointed at the first appearance.
