Q: damage to engine by mechanic
Vehicle was taken to local mechanic for simple oil change. By shops admission "drove the car into the bay, we performed the oil change and then the car wouldn't start". We (owners) attempted to jump the car, thinking it was the battery w/o luck. Bought a new battery, it tried to turn over, made a loud banging noise and never turned on. Had it towed to a very reputable shop that works on vehicles such as this (Corvette C6) the next day. After a week we received the following info regarding an $18,500 quote (above small claims court gap) "Hole in the engine block found. These cars are a dry sump system, if the oil change service was not performed properly it could could have very well have starved the engine for oil, causing the engine to literally throw a rod from either oil starvation or hydro lock from improper oil fill". Of course the shop that did the oil change claims no wrong doing. We can't find an attorney to help us
A:
It is unclear from your question what specifically the mechanic did that damaged your car. Since an oil change is a relatively simple service, it is difficult to imagine a hypothetical in which the mechanic’s work likely caused the loud banging noise.
You need to hire another mechanic to evaluate exactly what is wrong with the car and what caused it before anyone can offer an opinion as to the viability of a cause of action against the oil change mechanic
