Q: Hello I need to know if I can Legally communicate with someone who is currently locked up in jail?
Hello thank you for taking my question,
My situation pertains to the legality of communicating with an inmate who is currently in confinement right now in Hillsborough County Jail.
The reason he is in confinement is because he was caught communicating with a victim or a witness (I can't confirm which it is at the moment and I'm not sure if there is a difference in this matter) to which he had a no contact order with, through a friend of his in an indirect manner.
I believe in the circumstance he was given a charge for this. The charge according to his aunt who I spoke with recently said it was tampering with a witness. This guy is a friend of mine and I wanted to reach out to him by not only letters but also video chat through what they call the viso system. Either calling him or having a video meeting is recorded by Hillsborough County Jail. Considering he just got this charge am I able to communicate with him and not be implicated or associated with his own previous engagement?
A: Hello. If you are not a victim, witness, or someone with whom the friend is precluded from having contact per the no contact order, then you should be able to visit and communicate with them.
