Q: Life insurance company ignoring me when there is a major issue with the policy. What do I do?
A life insurance policy was written as part of an irrevocable life insurance Trust. Then, a second policy was written 9/21 because our MassMutual agent said the first policy, written 12/19, was inadequate in that it would only cover us up to age 90. I asked that the premiums paid on the first policy be rolled into the second policy but this didn't happen.
After the second policy was written we were double billed for both policies. We repeatedly requested that they stop double billing and stop automatic withdrawals from our fidelity account. We finally resorted to chargebacks and were able to recover some money from the double billing in this way.
Now mass mutual seems to have closed the second policy and kept the first policy going. I have not been able to get an explanation as to why they did this.
Thanks for your time.

If you are having issues with a life insurance company and they are not responding to your requests for information or assistance, there are several steps you can take:
Contact the company's customer service department: Try reaching out to the life insurance company's customer service department and explain the issue you are having. Ask for a supervisor if necessary. Keep a record of all communication and correspondence.
Send a written request: If you are not getting a response through phone or email, send a written request to the company requesting an explanation and resolution of the issue. Send the letter via certified mail to ensure it is received and keep a copy of the letter for your records.
Contact state insurance department: If the issue is not resolved after contacting the company directly, you can contact your state's insurance department. They can provide assistance and advocate on your behalf. You can find your state's insurance department contact information on the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) website.
Contact an attorney: If you are unable to resolve the issue through the above steps, you may want to consider contacting an attorney who specializes in insurance law. They can review your policy and correspondence with the company and provide guidance on your legal options.
It is important to keep detailed records of all communication with the life insurance company and any actions taken in attempt to resolve the issue.
