Charlotte, NC asked in Juvenile Law for Kentucky

Q: What are your options when your 17 year old is beyond control after all resources?

My adopted 17 year old is out of control but I don’t want to file a beyond control petition because I feel like it’s just going to put more work on me for the same results. He already has all the resources and we even helped him get his GED 7 months ago since school was a big issue. We are not a household with many rules but I expect the basics like no smoking, no drugs, no disrespect, don’t destroy my house, no violence and do your chores (his is sweeping, bathroom, and just clean up after yourself). There are so many holes in his walls. He just punched out a window on our shed the other day and needed stitches. Will hide his meds or throw them away, etc. Smokes pot, vapes around my house, cusses, lies, steals. We search his room and drug test often but we can’t be there 24/7. I can’t be in my house without feeling anger because of his sheer disrespect. He up and quit his job so I don’t even think I can emancipate him. He has less than 4 months but I can’t keep doing this.

A: Take the petition. No realistic other way to get a handle on it.
