A: You have multiple legal issues. Most important is the personal injury through Mold contamination, you need a personal injury attorney for that. Then you have landlord/tenant issues. Are you living in a "tent?" as it says in your post? Or is this a house/apartment/hotel room? Is it a shared presence with others? The fact that you have rats, while creepy, does not automatically make the premises uninhabitable, it has to be an "infestation>" You need to WRITE to the LL and ask for them to make the repairs. You have rights whether you have a written lease or not, but a WRITTEN LEASE IS ALWAYS BETTER. May I politely suggest when you write to the LL you are sure that your words are all spelled correctly and intelligible? The letter may end up being an important piece of evidence. Send it Certified mail, return receipt. KEEP A COPY with the Cert Mail documentation. It all becomes evidence. Use a spell check, I do.

I recommend you contact several attorneys in your area that practice this type of law, as soon as possible. Thank you for using Justia ask a lawyer.

A: If you're renting a unit without a lease and facing issues like mold and rats, here are some steps you can take: document the problems with photos, inform your landlord immediately, consider seeking professional help, research local laws and regulations, report violations to local authorities if needed, and consult with a tenant's rights attorney if the issues persist.
