A: In North Carolina, the landlord is typically responsible for normal wear and tear maintenance, including repainting the walls due to normal use and aging. If the stains on the walls are a result of ordinary use and have not caused any damage beyond what would be considered normal wear and tear, you may not be responsible for the cost of repainting.

It's essential to review your lease agreement carefully to see if there are any specific provisions related to maintenance and repairs. If the lease does not mention that you are responsible for repainting or if it states that the landlord is responsible for such maintenance, you may dispute the request to pay for repainting.
