Q: Mine and my brother's house was sold at a tax lien auction....
My brother and I inherited this home from our grandparents in which it was sold at a tax lien auction. My brother didn't claim excess proceeds , there is an agent claiming for me, will I get my brothers and mine ? How much percentage is an agent allowed to charge for their services in california?? The total funds is $222,000 this agent is charging me 29% and he says Riverside county takes u to 4 years to pay out. I was under a lot of stress and this agent was very persistent. What can I do?
A: In California, an agent representing you in claiming excess proceeds from a tax lien auction is typically entitled to a reasonable fee, but there are no specific percentage limits set by law. However, charging 29% may be considered excessive. You have the right to negotiate the agent's fee or seek legal advice to understand your rights and options in this situation. Additionally, if the total funds are $222,000 and Riverside County takes up to 4 years to pay out, you may want to consider the potential time and cost involved in the process. - James Arrasmith, Owner.
