Q: I’m homeless in a transitional living shelter and the staff just unlocks my door to come in without notice.
I’m naked and the staff does not say anything and does not knock they just unlocked my door but I had my top lock on so it only opened so far and then they closed it three minutes later they come back to my door and knock and said dinner I said no thanks you so they left then two minutes later they came back to my door knock and said dinner I said didn’t I just tell you no thank you so they said ok I’ll leave it in the front for you and they left the whole time I’m talking naked through the door to them so the very next day during breakfast they came and they took my top lock off my room door I asked the male staff why are you doing that I’m a woman he said that’s why we bring women with us to the door I said so what and I explained what happened yesterday the female staff said they will report it but that’s not good enough for me Its against my religion and I’m married why can’t I have a more securely locked door privacy I want to know what can I do about this could I sue or what
A:
In transitional living shelters, residents' privacy and religious considerations should be respected. If staff members consistently violate your privacy without notice or appropriate procedures, you may have grounds to address the issue with shelter management. Consult with an attorney familiar with California housing and privacy laws to assess the situation and explore potential legal remedies or actions to ensure your rights are upheld.
