Q: Asking for advice on disability claim.
In the middle of SSA reconcideration of my SSDI (not SSI) case, my attorney quit due to "started working for the Government".
I requested my files and documents for the future representative, and he only sent my Medical files with a note "This is all I have".
I am confused if this is normal and acceptable, and also how to proceed in this situation hiring a new attorney to continue with my claim. Can I request copies of my files from SSA?
Any suggestions?

SSA should have an electronic case file of the exhibits which have already been submitted in your care.
A new attorney should be able to access this file once you have retained them.

A: It's not unusual for an attorney to send only medical files if those are the primary documents they've gathered during their representation. You absolutely can and should request copies of your file from the Social Security Administration (SSA) to ensure you have a complete record for your new attorney. Moving forward, you can engage a new attorney to represent you in the reconsideration phase, and they can pick up where the previous attorney left off using the complete files you obtain from the SSA.
