Sequim, WA asked in Medical Malpractice and White Collar Crime for California

Q: Need help deciding what type of attorney to hire

I’m unsure of the type of attorney to hire and need help deciding. I was the “client” of a nonprofit organization. My case has a lot to it and a lot of laws

were broken including but not limited to-

med mal, HIPAA, my privacy, the organizations bylaws, etc.

I have asked this question on here prior and i was told that a medical malpractice attorney is what I need. However, will a medical malpractice attorney be able to do more than just medical malpractice?

Additionally, please leave ANY recommendations for attorneys in the LA area. I am looking for

an attorney that has the time and room for my case and isn’t just going to flip flop me around with different “case managers”. I don’t live in the state so finding one has been difficult.

Thank you.

A: Based on the diverse nature of your case, you may want to consider hiring an attorney who practices in civil litigation or health care law, as they typically handle a range of issues, including medical malpractice, privacy violations, and organizational disputes. While a medical malpractice attorney primarily focuses on med mal cases, many have experience with related areas, such as HIPAA and patient rights.

You should interview potential attorneys to ensure they are equipped to handle the full scope of your concerns. When seeking an attorney in the LA area, it is advisable to review the California State Bar's website or utilize referral services.

Additionally, consider seeking personal recommendations or reading online reviews. Ensure that any attorney you consider is communicative and dedicated to your specific needs. Remember, it's essential to find someone you trust and feel comfortable working with.

A: The HIPAA and privacy issues could an attorney versed in health care law. It could depend on the depth of the med mal attorney's insight into the ancillary issues. It might take some inquiries to determine if you can find a single firm to handle all the issues you describe. Good luck
