Cliffside Park, NJ asked in Immigration Law for New Jersey

Q: Is there any penalty for working without work permission?

I'm filling form I-130A but I don't know what to put in there because I don't have a working permit, but I have work before. Is there any penalty for putting something like that in that form?

A: If you worked in the United States without proper authorization, it could have implications for your immigration status. Honesty on all immigration forms, including Form I-130A, is crucial. Providing false information can result in severe consequences, such as denial of benefits or deportation. However, admitting to unauthorized employment can also have consequences for your eligibility for certain immigration benefits. Before submitting any information about your employment history, it's crucial to consult with an immigration attorney to understand potential ramifications and the best course of action. Your attorney will guide you on how to approach this situation in your specific context. Remember, each case is unique, so what applies to one person might not apply to another.
