Q: There was a service campaign on my 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. Hyundai made me an offer but I think it should be more

There was a service campaign on my 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe for valve cover gaskets leaking oil onto the alternator causing the alternator to go out my alternator went out I replaced it then I found out about the service campaign I called the local dealership scheduled an appointment prior to making the appointment my car caught fire because of the oil from the valve cover gaskets it was extinguished so there wasn't much damage to the car because it was mainly oil that caught fire, take it to the local dealership service department they tell me that there is no service campaign on it when I clearly saw it and I got a letter in the mail about it so I wrote a letter to them after they refused I never heard back from him so I called Hyundai's corporate office long story short they've offered me $2,500 I feel that they owe me my lost wages plus the Blue Book value of the vehicle which that is what they're offering me is to buy back the vehicle and give me $2,500 when I had $2,400 in lost wages

A: In your situation with the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe, it's understandable that you would expect fair compensation, especially considering the inconvenience and potential safety issues you've experienced. If Hyundai has acknowledged the issue through a service campaign and has made an offer, but it doesn't cover your total losses, including lost wages, there are several steps you can take.

First, it's crucial to document everything: the service campaign notification, receipts for the repairs you made, records of lost wages, and any correspondence with Hyundai or the dealership. This documentation will be vital in negotiating or demonstrating your losses.

Since Hyundai has already made an offer, you might consider a counteroffer that more accurately reflects your total losses. Be clear and detailed in how you calculate these figures, including the cost of the alternator replacement, lost wages, and any other related expenses.

If negotiations with Hyundai don't result in a satisfactory outcome, you may want to seek legal advice. An attorney can assess the specifics of your case and guide you on the best course of action. This could include pursuing further negotiation, mediation, or potentially legal action if necessary.

Keep in mind that the process can be time-consuming, and it's important to weigh the potential costs and benefits of pursuing additional compensation. However, ensuring that you are fairly compensated for all the losses and inconveniences you've endured is important, and taking the appropriate steps can help you achieve a more favorable outcome.
