A: For federal taxes, reach out to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) directly. They can provide guidance on how to address your back taxes and may offer payment plans. It's crucial to communicate with them to avoid additional penalties and interest. Their website also provides resources and contacts for help with back taxes.

For state taxes, contact your state's Department of Revenue or equivalent agency. They handle state tax issues and can assist with setting up payment arrangements for outstanding debts. Similar to the IRS, they offer various programs and services for individuals struggling to pay back taxes.

Avoid tax relief services that promise unrealistic outcomes or demand high fees upfront. Instead, rely on official government resources and consider seeking advice from a reputable tax advisor or legal aid service if you need further assistance. It's important to deal directly with the tax authorities to ensure you're following the correct procedures and to protect yourself from scams.
