A: Blackmail is a serious crime and if you are being threatened or extorted, I would urge you to immediately contact law enforcement and seek the counsel of a qualified attorney.

Here are some general steps you may want to consider:

1. Document and save all communications related to the blackmail (emails, texts, voicemails, etc.). This evidence will be important.

2. Do not give in to the blackmailer's demands or pay them money, as this often leads to continued demands.

3. Contact your local police department and file a report. Blackmail and extortion are criminal offenses.

4. Consult with an attorney who specializes in criminal law and/or personal injury to understand your legal options, both criminal and civil. Many offer free initial consultations.

5. Consider seeking a restraining order if you feel threatened or unsafe.

6. If the blackmail involves private/intimate content being shared online, there are resources for getting it removed. An attorney can advise you.

I'm very sorry you are going through this scary situation. Please prioritize your safety and don't hesitate to get law enforcement and legal professionals involved to protect yourself. Wishing you all the best.

A: You could find someone through online searches. Your post doesn't include a state or region, but you could supplement your searches with the "Find a Lawyer" tab above, as well as the referral sections of local and state bar associations. Good luck
