Windsor Mill, MD asked in Medical Malpractice and Wrongful Death for Maryland

Q: Is there a Pro Bono Malpractice Lawyer that can help my sister?

My sister's Fiance was in FCI Schuylkill Minimum Security Correctional Institution. He was a healthy 52 year old man. He had been complaining of back pain for weeks and finally taken to an infirmary at the facility. My sister received a call from the Institution Monday June 17, 2024 saying Bryant died! No one told her HOW the person that called did say something about "septic". Today is June 27,2024 (10 days later) he still has not been given an autopsy(or that's what they're telling her) His body has not been released to the Funeral Home. Although they're saying they've reached out to the funeral home, Wiley Funeral home has not heard from them. She still doesn't know how or why he died. She/we (his entire family) believe he was killed at Schuylkill. Can you HELP??? It's excruciating watching her go through this.

A: I'm very sorry for your sister's ordeal. A Maryland attorney could advise best, but you await a response for a month. You're not likely to find a pro bono med mal attorney - that's not the way they work. Most firms that handle med mal cases work on a contingency basis. That means they base their fee on a percentage of recovery, where their fee would generally be nothing if they do not prevail in a case - or if they do not accept/prosecute a case. You could reach out to firms to try to arrange a free initial consult. Good luck
