Q: How can i protect my dog from dog at large on my property? A dog stalked my dogs scent to my yard.
I put my dog in but there was only a screen door. Both dogs around 100 lbs. My dog protective of his territory and doesn't like any unknown animals or people approaching unless I'm telling him it's OK and then he's still on edge. It's home. The other dog was tail arched over back breathing in and out it's nose so fast it sounded like hyperventilating. There's no way to know if it was extreme play or extreme prey it thought it was stalking but I can't find out. If I swung a stick at said dog after being there multiple times did I commit animal abuse or protect my property?
A: The animal law attorneys here would be able to advise you best on what to do, but your question remains open for two weeks. If you can't locate an attorney in your region knowledgeable in this area of law, you could consider reaching out to animal control, local shelters, or animal welfare groups. Hopefully with enough phone calls, you'll engage with someone who could help with a humane and compassionate way to deal with the dog's visits. That stray dog may just be lost, hungry, and thirsty in this heat - and at 100 lbs, its size is unfortunately going to scare someone into shooting the poor animal instead of shaking a stick at it like you're doing to chase it away. Good luck
