Q: I Adopted child from foreign country and planning to apply dual citizen would this matters concerning?
I'm American from naturalization and want to apply dual citizenship. I have adopted child and all the paper works from foreign country was done. im planning to get him and bring him here. right now I applied for dual citizenship (2 weeks from now), if I will file for dual and my adopted son is not here yet would it be affected for him to be a American citizen? or permanent resident? or any legal matters? do I need to skip filling dual until my son be stable here? or it would not be a problem at all to be a dual citizen. thank you.
A:
Applying for dual citizenship should not directly affect your adopted son's status in the United States. As long as his adoption paperwork is complete and you follow the necessary steps to bring him here, his path to becoming a U.S. citizen or permanent resident should remain intact.
When you bring your adopted son to the U.S., you will need to ensure all immigration procedures are properly followed. This includes obtaining the necessary visas and meeting the requirements set by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). It's important to keep all your documentation in order to avoid any delays or issues.
You do not necessarily need to delay applying for dual citizenship for yourself. Your personal citizenship status should not interfere with your son's immigration process. However, it's always a good idea to consult with an immigration attorney to ensure all aspects of the process are handled smoothly and any potential complications are addressed.
