Cincinnati, OH asked in Uncategorized for Ohio

Q: Hello I received a email today saying I had a Payday loan out and I had to pay it or I would go to jail.

I never applied for a online payday loan. They said I had to pay back $850 to settle it or two payments of $425. And, my SSN number would be on hold until I paid it. They gave me a case number I asked them for a copy of the loan documents and a phone number so I could contact someone about this matter. They told me all they had was a affidavit and they couldn't give me a copy of that because it would be DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER. They also said that they sent me mail an I wasn't home to receive the mail. They also said I had a court date at the Local County but couldn't provide the County. Please help

A: An Ohio attorney could advise best, but your question remains open for a week. Some of the things you mention don't add up. It could be a scam. Until you're able to consult with an Ohio attorney who works in consumer protection and creditor law, here are some general points for thought. Creditors ordinarily provide debtors with documentation of an outstanding debt without hesitation. They also provide specifics about upcoming court appearances, such as details about the court, date, time, judge, index no., etc. Good luck
