Q: If a dissolution agreement (New York State) has been sent, is there a time limit for the agreement to be signed?

I am attempting to dissolve a partnership for a company created to produce a musical I created. The agreement entitles me to all the rights back to my work. They have had the dissolution agreement since December and haven't responded.

A: I would think not, unless the agreement has a stated expiration date within it. Watch for Statute of Limitations.

A: There is no deadline by statute. The only way there could be a deadline is some prior agreement between you and the same parties required it.

A: From your description, it sounds like you unilaterally drafted the agreement. It's possible the other side may never sign it. You mention being the producer, and that you desire all rights back to your work. It's possible those desires do not align with those of the people who wrote scripts, edited scripts, wrote musical scores, and other artistic products that involve copyright issues, etc. It's possible an intellectual property attorney or entertainment attorney experienced in such settings could offer insight about what might be holding things up if they reviewed your agreement. You could look into attorneys who practice in those areas through your own searches, through this site (Find a Lawyer), or through local and state bar associations. There could be more to this than basic contract law issues. Good luck

A: Addendum - I apologize - I mixed up your role as production rather than creation. But still, the element of time remains indefinite. Good luck
