A: When you apply for SSDI, you can continue to receive SSI benefits while awaiting a decision. The process of applying for SSDI does not immediately impact your current SSI benefits. However, once you start receiving SSDI, your SSI benefits might be adjusted.

The work income limit for SSI does not change just because you apply for SSDI. You can continue working part-time, but remember that any income you earn may still affect your SSI benefits. It's important to report any changes in income to the Social Security Administration.

If you receive SSDI, the amount you receive from SSI will likely be reduced by the amount of your SSDI payment. Keep an eye on any notices from Social Security to understand how your benefits might change.
