Chula Vista, CA asked in Criminal Law and Constitutional Law for California

Q: Possession and carrying Expandable baton in California.

Read online that a judge reversed an old law that made it illegal to own or carry an expandable baton for protection unless you are law enforcement or security. I believe the judge was named Benitez? He reversed a law saying batons were not billy clubs sandbag, sandclub, sap, or slungshot.” and that it was now legal to by, possess and carry a baton for protection in California. Just trying to find out if it is really legal to possess and carry a baton for protection in California. The police say they don't know of any law being reversed. Just wondering if I would jet in trouble or arrested for carrying one. Even news channels wrote about it. Read it when I looked up can you carry expandable baton in California. Any help clearing this up would be helpful. Not trying to get in trouble or arrested. Thank you.
