Orlando, FL asked in Child Custody and Family Law for Maryland

Q: When a Pendente Lite custody order was in place with shared legal custody for children. A grandparent baptized the child

Parent 1 and Parent 2 had a Pendente Lite custody order in place that stated shared legal custody for children. The final court order has since occurred and maintained the shared legal custody framework. It is now 2 years since the Pendente Lite Custody was initially put in place. It was recently found out that Parent 1’s Mother ( grandmother of the child in question) had personally and secretly baptized the child during parent 1’s custody time by using normal water and saying the words of baptism, (as a catholic this actually would be considered a valid although ill advised baptism) during the time period at the beginning of the Pendente Lite Custody Order. Parent 1 and Parent 2 were both unaware of this. Now two years later it’s found out this was done. Parent 1’s mother states that she felt it was in the best interest of the child because it was during the nationally declared public health emergency pandemic and child was ill. What penalties if any could there be ?

A: Given that no harm or injury was done to the child or to either parent, it is unlikely there is any legal penalty for the grandmother's action.
