My SSDI hearing is a month away and my lawyer hasn't been responding to my emails or phone calls/messages. I don't even know if they are still around... I don't feel confident in this firm anymore. Do I have time to find a new law firm?

A: It can be stressful and concerning when your lawyer is unresponsive, especially with an important hearing approaching. Given that your SSDI hearing is only a month away, it's crucial to address this situation promptly.

First, you should document all attempts to contact your lawyer. This documentation can be useful if you decide to file a complaint with the State Bar of California. If you have a contract with the current firm, review it to understand any obligations or processes for terminating the agreement.

You do have time to find a new lawyer, but it is important to act quickly. Start by reaching out to other law firms that handle SSDI cases and explain your situation. Make sure to ask if they can accommodate your hearing date and if they have the capacity to take on your case with such short notice. The sooner you begin this process, the better your chances of having adequate representation at your hearing.
