Fairfield, CT asked in Personal Injury for Connecticut

Q: Can an adjuster tell me my medical bills considered related to my MVA and then changed amount after the settlement?

During the negotiation process claim adjuster told me that my medical bills considered related to my motor vehicle accident was just over $21,000. But, after I settled the claim. The adjuster in his settlement breakdown changed the medical bill amount to $28,250. Can the adjuster do changed the amount of my medical bills after I accepted the offer to settle my claim?

A: A Connecticut attorney could answer best, since insurance practices involve state-specific regulations. But your question remains open for two weeks. A situation like that could sometimes come up if the rep hadn't originally applied a particular fee schedule. I don't believe Connecticut is a no-fault state - otherwise, my initial guess would have been to comply with a no-fault fee schedule.

You could ask why the modification. There could be other general reasons (lien-related, etc.) The more important question may be whether you were hurt by it in the determination of your net award. You should be offered an explanation for the modification. Good luck
