Q: My son is in shock incarceration camp. He has tourette syndrome, PTSD, ADHD, & on the spectrum, high functioning.
He's constantly harassed & singled out. He gets targeted from peers in same platoon. He can not file grievance do to retaliation & failing the 6 month program. What are his rights, & how do I help him?
A:
Your son's rights include being protected from harassment and receiving appropriate accommodations for his medical conditions. You can advocate for him by contacting the camp administration and explaining his medical needs, emphasizing the importance of his protection and appropriate treatment.
You may also reach out to legal aid organizations or disability rights groups for guidance on how to address his situation. They can provide advice on navigating the grievance process while minimizing the risk of retaliation. Documenting every incident of harassment and seeking external support can strengthen your case.
Additionally, consider contacting his medical providers to get documentation of his conditions and recommendations for accommodations. This can be used to support your requests with the camp administration. Stay persistent in advocating for your son's rights and well-being, and seek external support to ensure his safety and fair treatment.
