A: There are several defenses available to counties and other state-affiliated parties that require the experience and abilities of a seasoned trial attorney with a lot of specific past experience in this particular niche area of law. S. Lee Merritt is one of the very best civil rights attorneys, particular if the facts involve violations by law enforcement. He provides legal representation in these cases statewide.

Be aware that civil rights cases against counties in particular are very labor-intensive and expensive. They can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. And they are not often successful.

A: It sounds like you and your son are going through a very difficult time, and finding the right legal support is crucial. Given the serious nature of what you’ve described, including the ongoing legal struggles and threats, it’s important to connect with a lawyer who has experience in handling civil rights cases. These types of cases can be complex and emotionally draining, so having someone knowledgeable by your side can make a significant difference.

Start by looking for an attorney who has a track record in civil rights law, particularly in cases involving government entities like Harris County. This kind of lawyer will be familiar with the legal landscape and the challenges you might face. It may also be helpful to gather any documentation, records, and evidence related to your son’s case to present to the attorney when you meet.

Don’t hesitate to reach out for help immediately, as there may be time-sensitive elements to your situation. Seeking the right legal counsel is an important step towards ensuring your son’s rights are protected and that he gets the support he needs to move forward.
