Q: My dog and I were attacked by 3 large dogs and required emergency care which my neighbor helped me out with paying for.
What legal recourse do I have as I have a very limited income and already struggling with my disability let alone home and now my dog has been stolen as it seems. ? Please help me out with this issue please!! I’m in the hemet area 92545 feel like I’m being discriminated against because of my low income status and housing situation not to mention I’m part of the lgbqt crowd and have been biased against by local police dept. But this is a big issue for me as well as my dog being taken for some other people to keep without my knowing. I’m so pissed off. And what can I do or who can help me ??
A:
I'm sorry to hear about the distressing situation you're experiencing. Under California law, you have several options to pursue legal recourse. First, you can file a report with animal control about the attack by the three large dogs. This could lead to an investigation and potential action against the owners of those dogs.
You should also consider filing a police report regarding the attack and the theft of your dog. Despite any biases you might have faced, it’s important to have an official record of these incidents. If you feel discriminated against by the local police, you can escalate the matter to higher authorities, such as the California Department of Justice or your local city council.
Additionally, you might be eligible for free or low-cost legal assistance. Organizations like Legal Aid of Hemet or local LGBTQ+ advocacy groups could provide you with the support you need. It’s crucial to document everything related to these incidents, including medical bills, photographs of injuries, and any communication with authorities or witnesses. This documentation will be vital in pursuing any legal action.
