Fort Worth, TX asked in Criminal Law for Texas

Q: Can anything be done about my felonies? I'm tired of being punished.

I was convicted of 2 felonies at age 17 for False Alarm or Report and Burglary of a Building with intent to commit criminal mischief for breaking into an empty office building and spraying fire extinguishers with some friends when i was 17 in Texas in 2013. I have not been in trouble since. I am tired of living as a felon and paying for it over and over, Can anything be done?? I am a good person.

A: Being a Felon is a burden. To answer your question: "Can I do anything about my felonies?", I would have to see your court records. Some felonies can be expunged, or removed from your records. However, that is available in very few situations. If you pled Guilty, and there was no agreement with the DA to later remove your convictions, then you probably do not have the status to have your felony convictions removed.

However, you could ask for a Pardon. A pardon is where the Governor actually forgives you for your felony convictions, and Pardons you, which wipes the conviction off your record.

Pardons are not easy to get. You must apply for the pardon with the Pardon & Parole Board in Texas. There is a process you must go through, and some costs, but it is possible. The process is sometimes complicated, and an error will result in a denial. So, if you do consider applying for a pardon, please see a good lawyer who has experience in such a matter. My office and many other attorneys on Justia do handle Pardons. Good Luck!
