A: I handle appeals to the Supreme Court of Texas. In a typical appellate case, our firm requires an initial retainer of $25,000 to begin work.

I am bothered by your statement that you failed with your petition and need a response, as that is very ambiguous. There may be a timing issue involved that precludes me from being available to assist you. Normally, a petition for discretionary review is not due until 45 days after the court of appeals rendered its judgment. Unless the issues are relatively uncomplicated and the appellate record is fairly short, I need at least 30 days lead time. The appellate attorney who handled your appeal in the court of appeals should have explained these timing issues to you.
