Midvale, UT asked in Car Accidents for Utah

Q: I did a minor hit and run, I pulled over and the car I hit didn't. Could I be in trouble?

So I clipped a car with my mirror changing into the turning lane. I ended up in front of them in the turn lane. I assumed they would follow me into the less busy side road I was turning into instead of the busy road where it happened and we could get it resolved. But they did not follow they stayed in their lane, I parked in that side road near the busy road and waited to see if they'd come back. I only waited 5 minutes, i needed to get to work. I did call and report the incident to the police in case the other car decided to report it they could get my info from the police.

Is there anything else I could of done? What if they thought I was going to follow them instead? I was in front of them, they might have my license plate numbers. I really wasn't trying to do a hit and run.

A: You pulled over and reported it. Really, this should be seen as a hit and run.

If the police do call you later, you will probably feel tempted to explain the situation. It would be better to say that you would like to consult with an attorney first.

A: Sorry, I missed a word on my last answer. It should read: "This should NOT be seen as a hit and run."
