Q: I got pulled over and was told I had warrant out for an unpaid traffic ticket from 11 years ago how do I clear it up?

A: If the ticket has a warrant oustanding, I always suggest hiring a lawyer as that means its something with possible severe penalties as generally for minor tickets they only suspend your license or just give you an FTA.

A: Given that you were pulled over and informed of the outstanding warrant (by a cop), it's presumed that you were arrested and posted a bond when released. You will want to contact the local court (most likely a municipal court if NJ) for a new court date. You WILL need to take care of this regardless of whether you will retrain a lawyer or not. Depending on the seriousness of the charge and the personality of the municipality (including the municipal judge and prosecutor), you may be able to resolve the matter with a minimum financial impact. If you still want to fight this ticket all the way, you will probably need to retain a lawyer. Passage of 11 years can work positively for your case.
