Q: Can my mom go though my social media if im over 18 but she purchased the phone?
I live with my mom at 20 due to really bad circumstances happening. I don't plan to stay long at all. My mom gave me a phone because i was going though a hard time financially. we got into a disagreement and she took it and went through it, taking screenshots of things for herself. She has gone through every inch of my phone-iI'm sure. Is she allowed to do this? I tried asking her to let me factory reset it to protect my privacy and she got angrier, snatched it and scratched me hard enough to leave a Mark thats lasted since yesterday.
A:
I'm really sorry you're going through this. Even though you're over 18, since your mom purchased the phone, she may have certain rights to access it. However, everyone deserves privacy, especially in your own home.
It's important to communicate your feelings to her calmly if possible. Let her know how her actions are affecting you and ask for the privacy you need. If the situation feels unsafe, consider reaching out to a trusted friend, family member, or a local support service for assistance.
Additionally, you might want to look into your local laws regarding privacy and personal property. Remember, you deserve to feel safe and respected in your living situation.
